Names have been on our mind this week, but as we don't know what gender our baby is any discussions are still quite vague. It was the same when I was pregnant with Wiss - we went into the hospital with 2 girls names (Alice and Florence) and 2 boys names (Rudy and Lewis) and then we just went with what felt right.
We're finding it particularly hard this time to think of boys names that we like as we've already used our favourite! I love the name Lewis - it's not too trendy, it has references to the author of one of my favourite books, Alice in Wonderland and it's hard to shorten. Or at least that's what we thought! My friend's daughter had trouble saying Lewis so she called him Wiss and it stuck straight away. Other names we call him: Buddy, Sausage, Luigi, Weegee... And that's not to mention the nicknames he's called by others: Lollis, Lulu, Louie... So many names already and he's only 4!
None of the names we had before seem to work with us now so I've been trawling through the baby name lists, searching the Nameberry site, even reading all the credits at the end if films and programmes for inspiration but we still don't have any definite ideas. There's still loads of time (!) so I'll keep on thinking, but I'd love to know how you chose your babys' names. Did you go classic or trendy? Or did you name them after someone; famous or family? All comments will be very gratefully received :)

We are totally screwed with names as we can't agree! Nice to see someone else with the same age gap we will have :)

How is your little one dealing with your pregnancy? Wiss is old enough to be excited and to have good discussions about it too. The age gap was not exactly planned this way but I think that it will work out quite well. Wiss is off to school in September so he has that to keep him busy, and he is super proud to be a big brother!
DeleteGood luck with finding a name - something will stick!
We always find boy names hard to choose. I have a boy's name that I LOVE but husband does not and won't be swayed. We both like the same girl's name so thats ok though! Good luck on your decision!

Thank you. We seem to find the girls names easier than the boys too! And there's the surname clash problem too - we both like Robin but Robin Tobin??!! Hmmm... :)
ReplyDeleteWe settled on Toby or Martha really early on. I instantly loved Toby, hubby wasn't so sure due to a friend he has abroad who's a bit annoying, but he's a Tobi so it's okay. Hubby initially wanted Arthur but we'd agreed on Christopher (My Dad) for the middle name and I vetoed Arthur C Clarke on the 2001:Space Odyssey basis. He then said "Fine, if I can't have Arthur then I want Martha" and we both loved it!xx
ReplyDeleteFunny enough we really like Toby too - but Toby Tobin just doesn't work! Toby and Martha are both lovely names :)
DeleteMy advice - once you have your name choices keep them a secret! We made the mistake recently of telling a couple of close relatives our name choices and it's turned into a political nightmare, with people asking us to change our choices to different names that they like better. Far easier to keep it under your hat and then no one can say anything once the baby is born and named! Thanks for linking up the #BlogBumpClub again - love your bump pic! x
ReplyDeleteReally? That's awful! We have been keeping everything a secret, even the ones we are just mulling over. I guess everyone has an opinion on names but once the baby is here and named it just seems to suit. My mum and MIL keep making suggestions and we are politely ignoring them all!!!
DeleteHope you stick to your guns and name your baby whatever you both like :)
